You're Invited:Â A Special Community Gathering
Book Launch & Conversation with Karen A. Daley
Thursday, Jan 22nd, 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST
One moment can change everything
After more than 25 years at the bedside, a single needlestick injury altered the course of one Nurse’s life — and ultimately helped transform healthcare safety across the world.
The Nursing Way invites our community to a special live gathering with Karen Daley, PhD, RN, FAAN, to celebrate the launch of her book Overcoming: Stories of Leadership, Resilience, and Action. This event is a space to come together around powerful stories of resilience, advocacy, and the courage it takes to lead when life doesn’t go as planned.
Karen’s journey reminds us that adversity can become action — and that Nurses, when they raise their voices, can create meaningful, lasting change. Join us for a thoughtful conversation that honors the strength of the nursing profession and the shared humanity that connects us all.
About the Author & Speaker
Karen Daley, PhD, RN, FAAN
Karen is a nationally and internationally recognized Nurse leader, advocate, and author. She served as President of the American Nurses Association from 2010 to 2014 and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Barnstable Land Trust.
Karen spent more than 25 years in clinical practice at Brigham and Women’s Hospital until a life-altering needlestick injury in 1999 resulted in her infection with HIV and hepatitis C. Rather than stepping away, Karen transformed this experience into a powerful commitment to advocacy, becoming a leading voice for safer needle devices in healthcare practice settings worldwide.
In recognition of her leadership, excellence in practice, and global public health advocacy, Karen has received numerous honors, including two honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees. Her work continues to inspire nurses and healthcare leaders to turn adversity into action and to lead with courage, compassion, and resilience.
